This Christmas, Buy Less, Live More Millions of us will be celebrating Christmas differently this year. We'll be buying less and what we do buy will be ethical, local and packed with the values we believe in. The dual climate and economic crises we're in right now demand no less. The grander, strategic challenge for culture jammers and meme warriors in 2009 will be to transform the way the world thinks about consumption, wealth, entitlement and personal freedom. We'll shoot powerful, new meta memes like Redefining Progress, True Cost and The Steady State Economy into the teetering global system. Only all out meme warfare on all fronts will break through the denial and avert the great catastrophe that now surely looms ahead. We are an 80,000 strong global network and growing, so next year we should be able to implement some coordinated strategies that will really make a difference. 		ADBUSTERS MEDIA FOUNDATION YEAR-END WRAP UP THE MAGAZINE As the old media stumbles, Adbusters continues to hold its own. Our BIG IDEAS OF 2009 issue is premiering in India right now and next year we may realize our dream of launching a Spanish edition, if we can muster the resources to pull if off. ADBUSTERS.ORG What do you think of our new Drupal-based website? It's not just a pretty new face. The new site is a module-based content management system that'll allow us to add more direct action, meme warfare components during phase two of our upgrade in 2009. BLACKSPOT Nike is oh so ripe for the plucking right now. Our first strike is the "Just Douche It" ad spoof (which appeared on the back cover of the Big Ideas of 2009 issue). We'll continue to use our Nike-clad douchebag character in print and video to challenge Nike's domination of the fashion sneaker market. By snatching market share away from Nike we hope to inspire a new generation of grassroots entrepreneurs to launch their indie brands on the backs of megabrands like Nike, Starbucks, American Apparel, etc. ONE FLAG DESIGN COMPETITION This project prompted a visual dialogue about what it means to have a truly international perspective and sense of allegiance. The people of the world are often poorly represented by their national governments and the United Nations has become a symbol of ineffective bureaucracy. We wanted to create a flag that truly reflects the spirit of global governance and democracy. The contest officially came to a close on December 1st. The winners will appear on our website and in the magazine soon. ?
